What an extremely pleasurable book this was to read. Packed with loads of illustrative pictures and descriptions that don’t try to put any spin on their interpretation and a clear and concise progress of the history of photography from the beginning to date.
An excellent guide to the forms, styles and genres’ of photography and a great introduction for artistic Philistines like me who’d never heard of most of the photographers covered. The links between the various movements and the social history between the various artists makes excellent reading.
A great non-academic, academic book which will give me a great introduction to the TV series I’ve yet to watch on YouTube.
