Project: Using Lines In Composition

Exercise: Implied Lines

Part 1

Look at these two images and indicate with sketched lines any implied lines.

Ernst Haas Bull Fight

Gotthard Schuh Threshing Corn In Sicily

Both images have many actual and implied lines embedded within them, but the exercise is to find the implied lines only.

The ‘Bull Fight’ implies movement in several directions simultaneously with both bodies and there are many smaller lines which would clutter the image if they were to be marked.  I have therefore concentrated on only the major implications, all marked in red.

‘Corn Threshing In Sicily’ is a little more complex than ‘Bull Fight’ in my opinion as there could be far more lines marked due to the large number of mini-movements of all three bodies.  Again I have marked what I consider the main implications in red.
